Luxury Car Rental Rules & Etiquette: What You Can and Cannot Do

Luxury car rental rules and etiquette guide by Audi Rent DelhiRenting a luxury car is different from booking an ordinary cab. Whether you have chosen an Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover, Rolls-Royce, Bentley or a luxury convertible, these vehicles require greater care and sometimes have booking conditions that customers may not encounter with regular transportation.

At Audi Rent Delhi, our luxury cars are provided with professional chauffeurs only. Understanding a few basic rules before the journey helps protect the vehicle, avoids misunderstandings and makes the experience smoother for the customer, chauffeur and vehicle owner.

Here are some important things to know before your next chauffeur-driven luxury car booking.

Important Note Before You Read

The do’s and don’ts in this guide are general guidelines, not rigid rules for every booking. Different vehicles, occasions and requirements may have different conditions.

If you have any special request—whether it involves food or drinks, wedding decoration, pets, photography, convertible roof use, additional stops, extended hours or anything else—please discuss it with Audi Rent Delhi in advance.

Many requests may be possible with prior approval. Our team will confirm what can be accommodated depending on the vehicle, occasion and booking conditions.

When in doubt, ask us before the booking rather than assuming it is not allowed.

1. Can You Eat or Drink Inside a Luxury Car?

It is better to avoid eating meals inside luxury vehicles, particularly foods that can spill, stain the upholstery or leave a strong smell.

Water and simple beverages may be acceptable, but customers should check with the chauffeur before consuming anything inside the vehicle.

Luxury interiors can include premium leather, wood trim, carpets and delicate upholstery, so even a small spill can be difficult to clean.

If you are travelling with children, it is worth discussing this before the journey.

2. Is Smoking Allowed Inside the Car?

Cigarette smoke can remain in upholstery and air-conditioning systems long after a journey ends. Ash can also damage seats, carpets and interior surfaces.

This applies even if the windows or sunroof are open.

If a passenger needs a smoking break during a longer journey, ask the chauffeur to stop at a suitable and safe location.

3. Can You Drink Alcohol Inside a Luxury Car?

Do not assume that hiring a luxury car gives passengers permission to consume alcohol inside it.

Alcohol consumption and possession must comply with applicable local laws, and vehicle-specific restrictions may also apply.

For weddings and celebrations, clarify any special requirement with the booking team beforehand rather than asking the chauffeur during the journey.

4. Can a Wedding Car Be Decorated?

Yes, many luxury cars can be decorated for weddings, but decoration should be discussed before the booking.

Flowers, ribbons and other decorative material must be installed in a way that does not damage the paint, glass, sensors or body panels.

Avoid strong adhesives, permanent tape, metal wires or anything that may scratch the vehicle.

Decoration charges, where applicable, are generally separate from the car rental.

Explore our luxury wedding car rental services if the vehicle is required for a wedding.

5. Can You Sit or Stand on the Car for Photos?

No.

Sitting on the bonnet, roof, boot or other exterior panels can cause dents, scratches or other damage.

Luxury cars are frequently booked for weddings and photoshoots, but hiring the vehicle does not mean it can be used as a physical prop in ways that may damage it.

There are plenty of ways to create impressive photographs beside or around the car without sitting or standing on it.

6. Can You Take Photos with the Car?

Yes. Taking normal photographs with the vehicle is generally fine.

For a wedding, birthday or special occasion, customers naturally want photographs with the car they have booked.

However, a professional commercial photoshoot, advertisement, music video, film production or brand campaign is different from taking a few personal photographs during a rental.

If the car is specifically required for production purposes, disclose this while booking.

For commercial requirements, explore our luxury car rental for photoshoots.

7. Can You Open and Close a Convertible Roof Whenever You Want?

A convertible roof should be operated only when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Customers should not repeatedly operate the roof themselves without the chauffeur’s permission.

Weather, road conditions, vehicle speed and the mechanism of the particular convertible all need to be considered.

If you are specifically hiring an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover or another convertible for a groom entry or photoshoot, tell the booking team beforehand that you want the roof open during that part of the event.

8. Can You Change the Route After the Journey Starts?

Usually, small changes can be accommodated, but they may affect the final rental amount.

Luxury car bookings are generally calculated according to an agreed combination of hours, kilometres, pickup point, destination and itinerary.

If a customer adds another destination, significantly changes the route or extends the journey, additional kilometre or time charges may apply.

The best approach is to provide the expected itinerary when requesting the quotation.

9. What Happens If Your Wedding or Event Runs Late?

Weddings rarely run exactly according to schedule.

If your booking includes a fixed number of hours and the car is retained beyond that period, additional hourly charges may apply.

Do not assume that an extra hour is automatically included simply because the event has been delayed.

If you think the schedule may extend, ask about the extra-hour rate before confirming the booking.

10. Can You Carry More Passengers Than the Car’s Seating Capacity?

No.

The permitted passenger capacity should always be respected.

A luxury sedan that comfortably accommodates three rear passengers should not be overloaded simply because the journey is short.

Overloading can affect comfort, safety and vehicle operation.

For larger families, wedding groups or corporate delegations, consider booking a luxury van, SUV or additional vehicle rather than trying to accommodate everyone in one car.

Browse our luxury car collection to compare different vehicle categories.

11. Check Your Luggage Before Choosing the Car

A bigger-looking car does not automatically mean it has a bigger luggage compartment.

This is particularly important with convertibles, sports cars and certain super-luxury vehicles.

Before an airport transfer, tell the booking team:

Number of passengers • Number of large suitcases • Cabin bags • Any oversized luggage

A Mercedes or BMW sedan may be perfect for an executive with one suitcase but unsuitable for a family travelling with several large bags.

For airport requirements, see our luxury car rental for airport transfers in Delhi NCR.

12. Children Should Also Follow Vehicle Safety Rules

Children should not be allowed to jump on seats, stand through a sunroof or interfere with vehicle controls.

Parents and accompanying adults remain responsible for ensuring children behave safely inside the vehicle.

If you have a specific requirement involving a young child or child seat, discuss it before booking so availability and suitability can be checked.

13. What About Pets?

Do not assume pets are automatically permitted in every luxury vehicle.

Pet hair, claws, muddy paws and accidental damage can create problems with premium interiors.

If you need to travel with a pet, disclose this when enquiring so the team can determine whether an appropriate vehicle can be arranged.

14. Who Pays for Toll and Parking?

Unless your quotation specifically states otherwise, toll charges, parking fees, interstate taxes and similar route-related expenses may be additional.

This becomes particularly relevant for airport parking, hotels, wedding venues and outstation journeys.

Ask what is included in the quoted amount before paying the booking advance.

15. What Happens During an Outstation Booking?

Long-distance bookings require additional planning.

Besides kilometres and rental duration, the quotation may involve tolls, interstate taxes, parking and chauffeur-related expenses.

For overnight outstation journeys, the customer may also be required to arrange or bear the cost of the chauffeur’s meals and suitable accommodation.

Confirm these conditions before beginning a multi-day journey.

16. Treat the Chauffeur Professionally

The chauffeur is responsible for driving the vehicle safely and following the agreed itinerary.

Customers should not pressure a chauffeur to overspeed, violate traffic rules, park illegally or drive in an unsafe manner simply because the car has been hired for an occasion.

Similarly, abusive or threatening behaviour towards chauffeurs or staff is unacceptable.

A premium service works best when both customers and service staff communicate respectfully.

17. Do Not Ask the Chauffeur to Perform Unsafe Stunts

A wedding, reel or photoshoot sometimes creates requests for dramatic shots.

The chauffeur should never be asked to perform high-speed passes, sudden acceleration, drifting, dangerous positioning or other unsafe manoeuvres for a photograph or video.

Road safety always takes priority over creating content.

18. Be Careful with Low-Ground-Clearance Cars

Not every luxury car can comfortably enter every venue.

Sports cars and some super-luxury vehicles may have low ground clearance, making steep basement ramps, unusually high speed breakers and poorly surfaced roads problematic.

If you are booking an exotic or sports car for a farmhouse, hotel or wedding venue, mention the venue beforehand.

In some situations, a luxury SUV may be a better choice.

19. Personal Belongings Are the Passenger’s Responsibility

Before leaving the vehicle, check for:

Phones • Wallets • Sunglasses • Jewellery • Shopping bags • Documents • Chargers • Children’s belongings

Customers should avoid leaving valuable items unattended inside the vehicle.

If you realise something has been left behind, contact the booking team as quickly as possible so the chauffeur can be contacted.

20. Inspect and Confirm the Exact Car When Appearance Matters

For a normal transfer, customers may primarily care about the vehicle category.

For a wedding, groom entry, photoshoot, advertisement or VIP arrival, the exact vehicle may be much more important.

Where appearance is critical, confirm the actual car before the event rather than relying only on a model name.

Model year, generation, wheels and other visual details can differ between vehicles of the same model.

What Customers Should Share Before Booking

A clear enquiry makes it easier to quote the correct package. Ideally, share your date, pickup location, reporting time, destination, approximate duration, occasion, passenger count, luggage and preferred car.

For weddings and events, also mention whether decoration or multiple movements are required. For photoshoots, specify whether the car is being used for personal photography or commercial production.

Luxury Car Rental Is a Service, Not Ownership for the Day

This is perhaps the simplest rule to remember.

Paying to hire a Rolls-Royce, Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz or convertible gives you the right to use the vehicle according to the agreed rental conditions. It does not mean that every type of use becomes acceptable.

Treating the car carefully, respecting the chauffeur and communicating itinerary changes makes the experience better for everyone involved.
